Water/Wastewater Project Delivery Selection Matrix Tool

The Design Build Institute of America Rocky Mountain Region (DBIA RMR) Water/Wastewater Committee found a growing need to identify which project delivery method should be used on water and wastewater construction projects. The idea stemmed the belief that each owner and project is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all delivery method. The goal of DBIA RMR Water/Wastewater Committee was to develop a project delivery selection matrix (PDSM) for owners to use when selecting between design-bid-build, construction management at risk and design-build delivery methods. The outcome of the PDSM is an objective project delivery selection report that documents this key decision and communicates it to the project stakeholders.

Maximizing Success in Integrated Projects - New Owners Guide

Designing Your Project Delivery Strategy:

The main finding of this research was that project delivery methods alone (i.e. design-bid-build, construction manager at risk, design build, integrated project delivery) did not determine success. Instead, the most successful projects follow distinct delivery strategies. In particular, those strategies that align the core project team (owner, designers, primary builder and key specialty trades) are more effective in meeting or exceeding their cost, schedule and quality goals. Best leveraged in a workshop setting, the steps below outline the process for selecting a delivery strategy that meets the needs of your project. To learn more or to get started, please download the full guide and workshop templates!

Step 1: Define Project Needs
Step 2: Explore Delivery Options
Step 3: Select Delivery Strategy
